Bookstores are excellent places to find fascinating reading, discover new authors, shop for gifts, and help teach your kids to love reading. Here are some of the best bookstores in the Tulsa area.

Gardner’s Used Books and Music

At Gardner’s Used Books & Music, you can explore more than 23,000 square feet of comics, books, and vinyl records. You’ll also find wide selections of CDs, DVDs, collectibles, and video games. With their trade-in policy, you can bring in books and other items you’re finished enjoying and then choose some new stuff at a discount. Richard Gardner founded the store in 1991, and he started with the books in his library at home. Today, it’s the largest used bookstore in Oklahoma.

It has about a million books, and a large sculpture of The Hulk greets customers. You can find books about romance, science fiction, military history, mystery, horror, history, general fiction or nonfiction, and more. You can also enjoy food at RoseRock Cafe and Bakery or Senor Fajitas, delicious restaurants that are in the same building. Gardner’s Used Books & Music is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can visit on Saturday starting at 9 a.m., and they see customers from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Frugal Bookworm

Karen Bussell opened The Frugal Bookworm in 2007, and Ash McCumber and Lee Ann Henley purchased it in 2017. It specializes in modern fiction and general interest books. You can also find book-related knickknacks and gifts as well as unique handmade jewelry.

This store has over 45,000 books, and you can use their book credit system to trade in the tomes that you’ve finished. You can get up to 50% off used books with trade-ins. If they can’t resell the books you bring from home, they’ll donate them to local churches, day care centers, charter schools, free libraries, and other local organizations.

If you can’t find the book you’re looking for, you can add your name to the reserve list and one of their staff members will let you know when they get another copy. The Frugal Bookworm is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and they’re open until 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

Peace of Mind Books

This place offers more than 35,000 books about metaphysical topics such as astrology. You can find texts about yoga, religion, philosophy, mythology, self-help, dreams, history, ancient civilizations, herbs, and more. You can also browse Tulsa’s largest collection of essential oils along with crystals, incense, and massage oils. Their selection of herbs includes Echinacea, eucalyptus, chamomile, ginger, ginseng, lavender, rosemary, sage, and valerian. Tarot readings are available as well. This bookstore is open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

By reading a new book, you can learn useful facts, relax, and experience exciting imaginary worlds. These bookstores are excellent places to find great reading for yourself, your friends, and your family members. You can also shop for unique gifts.
