Did you know that wine was a significant segment of Oklahoma’s economy in the 1920s? While Prohibition and the Dust Bowl largely wiped out the industry, today the state has more than 50 wineries. If you’d like to support local businesses and enjoy wines made from local grapes, plan to spend the day at one of these four highly rated wineries within a short drive of Broken Arrow.

Water’s Edge Winery and Bistro

Opened in Broken Arrow’s Rose District by a local couple in 2018, this breathtaking destination specializes in locally made wines incorporating the best international ingredients. Vino lovers will find a diverse selection of whites and reds along with fruit-infused wine and sangria. Make a meal of it with the inspired small plates, including charcuterie boards, baked brie, soups, salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, and mouthwatering desserts.

Water’s Edge also hosts an exclusive club for both novice and expert wine enthusiasts as well as tours, bottling parties, and other events. Purchase wines by the bottle to bring home and even design customized labels for thoughtful gifts.

Pecan Creek Winery

Make the drive to Muskogee to taste the world-renowned wines at Pecan Creek, all made using Oklahoma grapes. This winery strives to provide its visitors with an educational yet enjoyable and laid-back experience. Visit the tasting room Thursday and Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. or on the weekends from 2 to 6 p.m. Outside those hours, you can reach out to the winery and make an appointment for a private tasting.

On a pleasant day, you can spend time strolling the 4-acre vineyard and enjoy a tasting on the splendid outdoor patio. Check the event calendar to learn about fun happenings at Pecan Creek Winery and plan your visit accordingly. This location also hosts private indoor and outdoor events.

Tidewater Winery

The beautiful historic setting in Drumhead makes Tidewater Winery one of the best places in Oklahoma to host weddings and other celebrations. The winery’s building, which dates to the 1920s, was originally owned by John D. Rockefeller and was used as a school for Tidewater Oil Company employees. Today, the site is on the National Register of Historic Places. Tidewater Winery specializes in Sweet Jimmie Jane, Red Rush, chardonnay, and cabernet sauvignon made from Oklahoma grapes. Visit for tastings on Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and experience this vast 8,000-square-foot restored state landmark.

Blue Coyote Winery

If you don’t mind taking a short drive from Broken Arrow, Blue Coyote Winery is worth the drive to Adair in Oklahoma’s scenic Green Country. The land where the winery now sits has been owned by the same family since 1952 and features a vineyard as well as goats, cows, chickens, and Guinea hens. Blue Coyote focuses on unique flavors drawn from each season’s bounty, with distinctive wines incorporating jalapeno, strawberry, peach, and even garlic. Stop by this bucolic winery on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Bring a picnic lunch and find a designated driver to plan your own tour of wineries in Broken Arrow and the surrounding region.
