Hello, Friends! Beck Is Back!

When talking about Chevrolet in the Tulsa area, the name Danny Beck is sure to come up. Danny owned Danny Beck Chevrolet before selling the dealership and semi-retiring after more than 35 years in the industry (he still worked some on the commercial side of things for a time). Many people know his name and remember hearing “Hello, friends,” at the beginning of his commercials. It was the end of an era when he hung up his hat. A new era has begun! We are happy to have Danny Beck joining our commercial sales team. He brings a wellspring of knowledge that we are pleased to have with us. We asked Danny some questions about what he’s been up to since retiring and what he’s looking forward to in the future. How have you been spending your time since “semi-retiring”? I have traveled to several places since I retired, visited old friends and tried a lot of new restaurants. Did you ever think you’d come back to the car industry full-time, and what made you want to come back? I had always thought that I would never quit selling cars but decided to try it. I did not like sitting around and missed seeing my friends and selling them vehicles. What are the biggest changes you’ve seen with the car business over the years? The biggest changes in the car business have been with the Internet, buying services, and increasing stiff competition. What about Jim Norton was appealing to you as far as dealerships go? I have known Jim Norton for many years and am very particular with whom I associate with! I know that this is a quality dealership with quality employees and customers do matter. What do you look forward to most here at Jim Norton Chevrolet? I am excited to enjoy the fellowship with my fellow employees, many of whom I have known for years, visit with my customers, and sell a lot of vehicles. The potential for growth is phenomenal here and I look forward to helping make Jim Norton #1 EVERY month!! Danny’s positivity and smile are infectious. You can’t help but be happy when he’s around. He is also a truly caring person who wants to help others in every way he can. Having him join our team here was a no brainer. Danny Beck makes everywhere he goes, a better place. So come down and say “Hello, friends,” to Danny and the rest of the team at Jim Norton Chevrolet and Jim Norton Commercial Service Center.

A Deli (And Desire) to Delight

Whenever your car needs to be taken in for service, it's never convenient. There's never a time when someone thinks, "Awesome! It's so convenient my car needs an oil change now! I can't wait to take it in." We get that bringing in your car for service, for whatever reason, is something that generally gets put off due to it being inconvenient, and then it's begrudgingly done so with a sense of having to sacrifice something. That sacrifice might be part of your Saturday, or perhaps your lunch break. It's probably one of the reasons 39% of Americans wouldn't own a car if they didn't have to. We want to do everything we can to alleviate any stress around getting your car serviced. For situations where the service is going to take longer or even multiple days, we have loaner vehicle options. For the rest, we have Lee Ann Kron and our deli. Lee Ann Kron of Jim Norton Chevrolet   Lee Ann is from Tulsa and has worked with Jim Norton Chevy for 3 years now. She loves the family environment present at Jim Norton Chevy. "It really is like a family!" That is obvious seeing her interact with everyone who comes to her counter. Whether it is an employee or customer, Lee Ann greets everyone with a kind smile and warm welcome. She treats them like family. It's what we do at Jim Norton. We want to make sure that people's time here is as enjoyable as possible. "It makes things a lot easier. Customers have what they need. Employees have what they need. You don't have to worry about going out for lunch in bad weather or missing out entirely. It's all right here." And it is. The deli is more than just a snack bar. Apart from offering complimentary coffee, the deli menu includes cold cut sandwiches, paninis, wraps, bagels, quesadillas, salads, and snacks like granola bars, chips, fruit, muffins, or candy. When asked what her favorite menu item is, Lee Ann leans toward the wrap. "It's just really good!" But then again, so is everything. There is something for everyone to enjoy. (editor's note: My personal favorite is the roast beef with everything) The deli menu at Jim Norton Chevrolet Snack options at the deli Drinks available through the deli                           Complimentary coffee Candy available at the deli                   The deli, along with WiFi, charging outlets, and televisions, is just another way we aim to help our customers enjoy being here. Commercial Service Center Grand Opening

We are proud to announce the grand opening of our new Commercial Service Center on Albany Drive, just past our Used Car Center. The new building houses commercial sales and commercial services. So whether you need a new commercial truck or van, or if you need your current one serviced, the Jim Norton Commercial Service Center is the place to come. The facility, or truck shop as we like to call it, is more than 12,000 square feet in size and has 12 bays for servicing. It has lifts that can handle 30,000 pounds and a 5 ton crane that can move from one end of the facility to the other. We can handle pretty much whatever you have got. When designing the building we asked our certified technicians, "what would you want from a truck shop?" and then gave it to them. All of our technicians are highly trained and extremely knowledgeable so our faith in them is not misplaced. Perhaps your business is in need of a vehicle that works as hard as you do. We keep the Commercial Service Center stocked with a full selection of trucks and vans, new and used, to best suit your needs. At the truck shop, our business is to help your business. We have everything from cutaways to chassis cabs to cargo vans. Contact us today to see how we can help. We are extremely excited for the future of the Jim Norton Commercial Service Center and what it will mean to not only us, but also the community at large. We want to help Broken Arrow and Tulsa businesses grow by being an asset for them to rely on. The truck shop is one more tool for them to utilize. We were honored to have U.S. Representative Kevin Hern join us for the ribbon cutting ceremony, as well as State Representative Ross Ford, Broken Arrow City Councilor Debra Wimpee, and Broken Arrow Chamber President Jennifer Conway. The ribbon cutting ceremony can be viewed here.

A Top Workplace of 2019 (And Proud of It)

2019 was a big year for us here at Jim Norton Chevrolet. We finished construction of our new Commercial Services Center. We were able to donate $9,000 to Broken Arrow High School for Project Graduation through our “Drive for Education” campaign. We helped people get new cars and others take care of the ones they already owned. We put people first, including our employees. We know that our staff is what makes Jim Norton Chevy such a special place. We have gathered the best people in order to give you the best experience possible, from getting your oil changed to driving off in a new Tahoe or Corvette. These are just a few of the reasons we were voted a Top Workplace of 2019 in Oklahoma and we couldn’t be more proud. Rather than going on about how great it is to work here, we decided to let employees do all the talking as to why they love working at Jim Norton Chevy. “The management. Progressive organization that’s customer focused. It’s a great environment with good people.” - Mark Koopmans, IT Director “The environment and the people. It’s a fun place and everyone is professional and helpful. We are a team.” - Vicki Oritz, Reception “I get to meet different people every day. A lot of different personalities. It’s fun getting to help them with whatever they need.” - Kenny “KB” Bradford, Sales Associate “It’s a family atmosphere and has been for years.” - Russell Pearson, Service Advisor “How friendly and helpful everyone is here. It really is like a family.” - Lee Ann Kron, Barista “The family atmosphere. Everyone treats everyone with respect. It makes for a great place to work.” - Steve Weidower, New Car Manager So what makes Jim Norton Chevrolet such a great place to work? The same things that make it a great place to buy or service your car. We care. We take care of each other. We’re family. And for 2020 we plan on doing even more. We’ll do more, give more, and help more. Will you join us?

3 Great Chevrolet Hatchbacks to Choose From

Compact and subcompact cars have become more and more popular over the years, but they tended to lack in trunk space. The answer to that issue ended up being the hatchback. Chevrolet's lineup has some impressive hatchback models. Take a look at their features, and we're sure you'll agree that they're ahead of the pack. The Sonic Driven by a 1.4-liter Ecotec I-4 engine that generates 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, the Chevrolet Sonic is a six-speed automatic. This 5-seater has an impressive 19 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats left in place. With the back seats folded down, the cargo space increases to 47.7 cubic feet. The Premier trim is packed with luxury features, including six-way adjustable powered and heated seating, a larger infotainment display, a rearview camera, and driver-assist options like cruise control, rear park assist, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. With zero engine noise, a tight turn radius, and excellent overall visibility from within the cabin, this electric vehicle is ideal for living and working in crowded cities with narrow parking and passageways. This little hatchback can pack a good bit of cargo, with 16.9 cubic feet when the back seats are up and 56.6 cubic feet when they are down. The higher trims come with heated seating, leather upholstery, a backup camera, and cruise control. The fast-charging functionality dramatically cuts down on time lost during the process, and the blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are more than worth the cost of their addition. The Spark This uniquely designed hatchback bears a 1.4-liter Ecotec I-4 engine, generating 98 horsepower and 94 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a five-speed manual, but a CTV automatic version is available for this front-wheel-drive car. The Spark gets 29 miles per gallon in the city and 38 on the highway.  The Spark boasts 11.1 cubic feet of cargo space and 27.2 cubic feet when the back seats are folded down. Despite the huge advancements in technology over the past decades, reading a book remains a uniquely satisfying experience. Whether it's a captivating story or an interesting piece of non-fiction, reading transports us into another world and improves our knowledge. Luckily for those living in or around Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, there are plenty of great bookstores around. Here are some of them. Gardner's Used Books and Comics Arguably the largest used bookstore in the entire state, Gardner's Used Books and Comics has a huge collection of different forms of media, such as books, DVDs, vinyl records, video games, and more. It was opened by Richard Gardner in 1991, who started out by selling books out of boxes. Almost three decades later, the collection is spread over 23,000 square feet and is continuously expanding, with the bookstore constantly seeking interesting new items to add to their impressive collection. Despite its size, finding what you want is easy, with their friendly and knowledgeable staff always ready to help you. Book Files - We Buy Books Located right in Broken Arrow and open since 1995, this place is one of the best in town to both buy and sell different media items, such as books, graphic novels, collectible items, DVDs, and videogames. They mainly specialize in non-fiction books from various domains, like history, military, Americana, and theology. In total, they have over 60 catalogs of quality books at affordable prices. If you can't make it to their bookstore they will deliver your books for you and if you have something to sell they will come to you to pick it up. They also constantly promote books from local authors and host monthly dancing brush painting classes. Visitors will soon discover that this is more than just a bookstore; it's a place you can easily spend hours and also a great way to promote Oklahoma's local authors and artists. McHuston Booksellers & Irish Bistro This is arguably the best place in Broken Arrow to find rare, out-of-print books that you may not find elsewhere, as this is their specialty. Also, if they don't have what you're looking for, their staff will help you find it and quickly order it for you. They not only sell rare books but buy them too, offering great prices for in-demand books. So take a drive to a bookstore and read up on the things you're interested in. Image via Flickr by Aranami used under CC By

Enjoy a Day With Your Four-Legged Friend at a Dog Park In Broken Arrow, OK

As the old saying goes, the dog is man's best friend. They protect us, help us fight crime, they even sense when we are sad and try to cheer us up. Dog owners in and around  Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, have several great dog parks to take their four-legged buddies to. Here are some of the best. Rose West Dog Park Located right in Broken Arrow, on West New Orleans Street, this is definitely one of the best places in town to bring your dog to. It's an off-leash area, so your companion can explore the well-maintained green spaces, make new friends, and enjoy a healthy run. Each dog owner is allowed to bring up to three pets. The park also has many pathways, human bathrooms, poop bag disposals, and plenty of water fountains that the dogs can use when they get thirsty. The park is open every day of the week except for Wednesdays when it's closed for maintenance. Biscuit Acres Dog Park This off-leash dog park is located in Tulsa and has been a part of the local dog owner community for the past ten years. It's run by the Biscuit Acres Volunteer Association and the City of Tulsa Parks Department and spreads over two and a half acres, with plenty of amenities for dogs and their owners. People can relax and take a stroll around the park, with plenty of benches, tables, and shaded areas for when they need to take a breather, while dogs can safely run around and have fun. Although it can count on the support provided by the local Parks Department and the local community, Biscuit Acres Dog Park relies on private donations to cover all the maintenance costs and to raise funds for future expansions. Each donor can make a tax-deductible donation, and in return they will be granted the official status of Biscuit Acres Volunteer. Joe Station Dog Park Also located in Tulsa, Joe Station Dog Park is another great local destination for dog owners. There are many grassy open spaces where your four-legged buddy can run around, socialize with other dogs, and have a good time. The park is divided into two areas, for small and for large dogs. This way all owners can feel safe knowing that their dogs will play around with similarly-sized companions, significantly reducing any risk of injury. Dog water fountains, waste stations, seating areas, and bathrooms are all around the park, helping both you and your dog enjoy a beautiful day out in nature. There's also a fire pit in the middle of the park where dogs can warm up in the winter. The park's rules are pretty common and straightforward, but parents should remember that children under the age of 12 are not allowed in for safety reasons. Having a dog certainly adds a new dimension to your life. You can be sure you are the center of its universe and it would do anything to make you happy, so the least you can do is regularly take it out to a dog park where it can run around with its buddies.
